Meeting Location - Session 1 (4 July 1997) - Sherwood

The Texas Constitutional Convention will be convened on 4 July 1997 in the Original Irion County Courthouse in Sherwood, Texas. Sherwood is a very small town. Food is available in nearby Mertzon but restaurant business hours are somewhat restricted. The best bet for food and lodging is in San Angelo, about twenty miles away.

Where is the Original Irion County Courthouse?

Well, it's located approximately 15 miles west of San Angelo in West Texas. Look at a Texas map if you don't know where San Angelo is.

To find the Original Irion County Courthouse...

  1. Take U.S. Hwy 67 west from San Angelo (also known as the Mertzon Highway).
  2. Approximately 15 miles west (about two miles from Mertzon) there is a little green highway road sign that reads, "Sherwood" with an arrow pointing to the left... turn left.
  3. It's a winding little paved road, so watch your speed for safety reasons.
  4. Continue south for a couple of miles... you'll come to an intersection with a stop sign.
  5. Look to your right... two blocks west is the courthouse.
  6. Please enter and park from the south side of the courthouse.

If you miss the little green sign pointing to Sherwood, turn around at Mertzon, go back east and try again.
