Texas Constitutional Convention Updates

Summary of 9/10 May 1998 Meeting (Rough Notes)

A total of 52 motions were passed, most of which dealt with fine-tuning the wording and organization of the constitution. The convention also authorized the creation of a pure trust to be named "Texas Constitution Ratification Fund". The purpose of the trust is to fund the ratification effort.

Three delegates were unseated due to missing two sessions in a row. Two new delegates were seated. A new secretary, Bobbie Sudbury, was elected. A new treasurer, Monty Barnett, was elected.

A new committee, "Defense Forces Committee", was formed to study what needs to be in the constitution regarding county and national defense forces. The following people volunteered to be on the committee:

Donald D. Henson, Chair
Monty Barnett
Cloyce Williams

The convention was adjourned until 9:00 a.m. on 11 July 1998 at a location to be determined in Fredericksburg or at an alternate location to be announced.
